In Review: Year 4
This year was a year of steady growth for me and travel! I was very lucky this past year in that I got to do a lot of traveling with my family, with my classmates, and with my co-op.
This fall, I co-oped at the BASF plant in Louisville, Kentucky. It made me feel like more of an adult - moving to a new city with no connections other than a job. But I learned so much from being on my own for the semester. I learned how to navigate a new city, how to make friends in a new place, and how to truly live on my own. And Louisville was a fun city. By the time I was ready to leave, I realized that I had left a small piece of my heart down in Louisville.
During the fall semester my sister studied abroad in Torino, Italy so for Christmas break, my family decided to go on a two week whirlwind trip through Europe! It was hands down, one of the most magical times in my life. The places we were able to go to and the sights we were able to see were unforgettable. And the reunion with my sister (and my best friend!) after six months of not seeing each other wasn't half bad too haha!
Spring semester, it was back to classes. As a fourth year chemical engineering student, classes were rough. I spent most of my nights during the semester pouring over textbooks and completing homework. The workload was so intense, that I did suffer from some anxiety. But I think it also helped me to become stronger and to have an appreciation for the simplicity of work/co-op life!
Spring break, I traveled with the Honors World Folklore and Traditions Seminar to Reykjavik, Iceland. Iceland was unlike any place I had ever been before. It was beautiful, intense, cold as can be, and a crazy ride. We got to experience the Northern lights, the tectonic plate divide, caving under volcanos, the famous hot springs, and so many amazing things. For more about my trip, check out my page in my honors experiences.
I was able to really able to refine and focus some of my passions outside of the classroom this year as well. I took a step back from some of the activities that were not as good of a fit for me anymore including band, Tau Beta Sigma, and Theta Tau. However, freeing up my schedule allowed me to focus on the things that really did matter to me including "princessing" and art.
I have also decided to get an MBA and began this process through the UC ACCEND program. This summer I co-op at the Cincinnati BASF site in the business department. As I have done my co-ops, I have realized that I like the business side of engineering better and am thankful to have these opportunities to move forward in this direction.
I am looking forward to my senior year and to all of the possibilities that it brings! Go bearcats!
